    Extracting Text from Table Images

Tables in images present a unique challenge for OCR because column alignment depends on visual spacing rather than text delimiters. Our tool extracts all text from table images, reading left-to-right, top-to-bottom. While column structure may not be perfectly preserved, the extracted text can be reformatted in a spreadsheet.

Pro tip: For best table extraction, use the Excel mobile app's "Insert Data from Picture" feature or Google Sheets' image import on mobile. These tools are specifically designed to recognize and preserve table structure.

    Tips for Table Text Extraction

    Simple Tables

Tables with clear borders and simple data extract well. The text follows row order. Paste into Excel and use "Text to Columns" to separate by spaces or tabs.

    Complex Tables

For merged cells, multi-line cells, or nested tables, extract one section at a time by cropping the image. This gives more control over the output order.

    Spreadsheet Screenshots

Screenshots from Excel/Google Sheets often preserve tab characters between columns. After extraction, paste into a spreadsheet - columns may auto-separate.

    Data Tables in PDFs

Screenshot the PDF table, then upload. For multi-page tables, process each page separately and combine the results in your spreadsheet.

    Converting Extracted Text to Spreadsheet

    1. Extract the text using the tool above
    2. Copy the extracted text to your clipboard
    3. Open Excel or Google Sheets and paste (Ctrl+V)
    4. Select the pasted data and use:
      • • Excel: Data > Text to Columns > Delimited > Space/Tab
      • • Google Sheets: Data > Split text to columns
    5. Manually adjust any cells that didn't separate correctly
